Parsnip

Varieties that I've used so far; HollowCrown

When to sow; Hot Winter, Autumn, Spring Warm Spring, Summer, Autumn Cool Spring, Summer, Autumn

Location; Sunny well drained position

Sow; 5mm (1/4 inch) In rows.

Spacing; about 35cm between rows, thinning out to 20cm apart.

Germination; 21-28 days

Harvest; About 18 weeks.

Tips; Sow very heavily as germination is irregular and keep soil moist so seeds don't dry out.

What luck have I had; No luck at all and won't be in a hurry to try again (will at some stage I'm sure) I've planted 2 seed packets with only 1 Parsnip out of 1000's of seeds, I've planted them in the same area of the carrots which I've had a 90%+ strike rate.  For the small home gardener I would leave these alone and go for something that has a better strike rate.  Feel free to email me if you have had better luck with them and let me know what you've done.
